Background: Corruption in the education sector poses a serious threat to academic integrity, the credibility of institutions, and the overall quality of education. It undermines public trust, devalues merit, and weakens the foundation of learning, particularly in STEM education where precision and ethical standards are paramount. Objective: This study aims to examine the negative effects of corruption in education and explore effective strategies to mitigate its impact in order to improve educational standards and foster integrity, especially within STEM disciplines. Method: A qualitative descriptive approach is employed, involving literature reviews and observational analysis of documented corruption cases in the education sector. Data were collected through document analysis, interviews with education stakeholders, and a review of institutional policies related to anti-corruption measures. Result: The findings reveal that corruption in education takes various forms, such as academic fraud, grade manipulation, admissions bribery, and dishonest examination practices. These malpractices contribute to the deterioration of educational quality, the erosion of public trust in educational institutions, and the loss of core ethical values in academic environments. Conclusion: To combat the degeneration caused by corruption, systemic educational reforms are essential. These should include increased transparency, stricter regulatory enforcement, and comprehensive anti-corruption policies. Moreover, fostering integrity and ethical values from early education levels is vital in cultivating a corruption-resistant academic culture. Contribution: This study provides valuable insights and recommendations for educators, policymakers, and society at large in designing strategies and policies to combat corruption in education. It contributes to the promotion of a credible, ethical, and high-quality educational system, particularly in STEM fields, where integrity and excellence are foundational.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Background: The South-East region of Nigeria, particularly Anambra State, has been facing a series of escalating security challenges since 1999. These issues have significantly hampered socio-economic development and posed threats to the lives and well-being of residents. Insecurity-marked by violence, kidnappings, political unrest, and social instability-remains the most critical among these challenges. Objective: This study aims to examine the causes and effects of insecurity in the South-East, with Anambra State as the focal point, and to propose possible solutions to mitigate the crisis. Method: The study employed a descriptive survey design and was conducted in Anambra State between 1999 and 2023. Data were collected through interviews and a validated questionnaire titled “The Causes of Insecurity, Effect, and Its Possible Solutions in the South-East and in Anambra State in Particular.” The respondents were randomly selected youths from the state. A combination of multivariate regression methods and statistical inference techniques was used to analyze the data. Result: The analysis revealed that multiple factors contribute to insecurity in Anambra State, including youth unemployment, political marginalization, poor governance, and the activities of non-state actors. The data also showed that insecurity has profound effects on economic development, education, and daily life. The findings underscore the urgent need for a multi-sectoral approach to address these issues. Conclusion: Insecurity in the South-East, especially in Anambra State, is a complex, multifaceted issue requiring immediate and sustained interventions. Understanding its root causes is crucial to devising effective and lasting solutions. Contribution: The findings of this study provide relevant insights for policymakers, civil society actors, and especially Nigerian youths, emphasizing their role in fostering peace and development. The study also offers a foundation for further research on regional insecurity and strategic interventions.</dc:description>

These values are fundamental in shaping responsible citizens who are committed to their nation’s unity and development. Strengthening such character traits from an early age, especially at the elementary level, is crucial. Objective: This study aims to explore the strategies employed by teachers at SDIT Al-Qiswah, Bengkulu City, in fostering and strengthening the character values of nationalism and love for the country among elementary school students. Method: This research uses a qualitative field study approach. Data were collected through primary and secondary sources using observation, interviews, and documentation methods. The validity of data was tested using triangulation of sources and techniques, while the data analysis was conducted using an interactive model. Result: The findings indicate that teachers implement several strategies to strengthen students’ nationalism and patriotism. These include role modeling, habituation, storytelling, discussions, school programs, the use of learning media, the application of rewards and punishments, and collaboration between teachers and students' parents. Conclusion: Teachers at SDIT Al-Qiswah effectively apply a variety of character education strategies to foster a spirit of nationalism and love for the country among students. These strategies are integrated into both the academic and extracurricular activities of the school. Contribution: This study contributes valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers on practical and culturally relevant methods to reinforce character education, particularly in cultivating national pride and patriotic values among elementary school students in Indonesia.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Background; Character education supports Islamic values in schools, with congregational prayer viewed as a means to instill moral and spiritual principles. However, the implementation and impact of such programs on students’ character development remain underexplored. Objective: This study aims to examine the implementation of the congregational prayer program in strengthening the Islamic character of high school students, particularly focusing on the development of gratitude. Method: The research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological paradigm. It was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Bengkulu in 2022. Data were collected through three primary techniques: (1) participant observation, (2) in-depth interviews, and (3) documentation. The analysis was carried out using the deduction, induction, and comparison methods. Result: The findings reveal that the implementation of Dhuha and Zuhur congregational prayers contributes significantly to shaping students' gratitude character. This development is evident in three dimensions: physical (behavioral discipline), psychological (emotional awareness and sincerity), and social (togetherness and mutual respect). Conclusion: The congregational prayer program effectively fosters Islamic character in students, particularly the value of gratitude. Routine practice and a supportive school environment play a critical role in reinforcing this character. Contribution: This research provides valuable insights into how religious practices, such as congregational prayer, can be integrated into school programs to support character education. It serves as a scientific reference for educators and policymakers aiming to strengthen Islamic values in educational institutions.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Background: The formation of Islamic character among elementary students with special needs requires contextual, structured, and consistent strategies across school and family settings. Objective: To analyze teachers’ strategies for shaping the Islamic character of ABK at Fatma Kenanga Elementary School, Bengkulu City, and to map enabling and hindering factors. Method: Qualitative case study; purposive sampling of teachers and the principal. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, focused observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s framework. Results: Character building employed four approaches: (1) exemplary conduct embedded in lesson plans and daily routines; (2) reinforcement of habitual practices; (3) social modeling; and (4) educative disciplinary measures. Implementation occurred daily with monthly character targets. Observable outcomes included worship practices, environmental stewardship, honesty (with variability), and discipline (persistent challenges with neatness after breaks). Supporting factors included educator solidarity and the relative ease of habit formation; family and neighborhood influences were ambivalent. Conclusion: When applied consistently and aligned with parental support, the combined strategies effectively strengthen the Islamic character of students with special needs. Contribution: This study proposes an integrative, operational framework that merges modeling, behaviorist reinforcement, and social learning for inclusive Islamic character education in elementary schools, together with practical guidance (daily routines, monthly targets, reinforcement, and educative sanctions) and an empirical basis for evaluating and developing ABK-friendly school policies.</dc:description>

Credibility was ensured via triangulation of sources and techniques. Data analysis followed four stages: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Result: Entrepreneurship instruction is deliberately connected to religious knowledge and delivered through an integrated curriculum. This alignment embeds entrepreneurial practice in daily religious learning and school routines, fostering santri independence and responsibility. Conclusion: A values-aligned, curriculum-integrated model of Islamic entrepreneurship education effectively cultivates independent and responsible character in the pesantren context. Contribution: The study clarifies how religious values and entrepreneurial practice can be operationally integrated at the levels of curriculum, pedagogy, and institutional routines, and highlights practical design elements that educators can replicate to strengthen character outcomes.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Background: Broken home family conditions often affect children’s emotional development and character formation, particularly among juveniles in conflict with the law who undergo rehabilitation in juvenile correctional institutions. Objective: This study aims to analyse the dynamics of emotional behaviour and the factors influencing character development among juvenile inmates from broken home families at the Class II Juvenile Correctional Institution (LPKA) in Bengkulu City. Method: The study employed a qualitative case study to obtain an in-depth understanding of juveniles' emotional experiences. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with five juvenile inmates and two correctional officers, and analysis of relevant documentation. Result: The findings reveal that the juveniles experience complex emotional fluctuations, including sadness, anger, loneliness, and low self-esteem, which are triggered by family conflict, lack of parental attention, and negative social environments. Nevertheless, rehabilitation programs at the LPKA, such as counseling, spiritual activities, educational programs, and social activities, help the juveniles express and manage their emotions more constructively. Conclusion: The study concludes that a holistic, psychosocially supported rehabilitation approach is essential for promoting emotional stability and strengthening character development among juvenile inmates. Contribution: This study enriches the literature on the emotional dynamics of children from broken-home families in institutional rehabilitation contexts.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Background: Primary education plays a strategic role in shaping students’ foundational knowledge, attitudes, and character; therefore, the quality of instruction and teacher competence are key factors in improving educational outcomes. However, classroom practices remain largely dominated by surface learning approaches that emphasise memorisation and short-term cognitive achievement. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between deep learning–based instruction, character strengthening, and the enhancement of primary school teachers’ competence. Method: The study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review, using critical analysis and theoretical synthesis of various scholarly sources and educational policy documents. Result: The findings indicate that deep learning–based instruction can enhance conceptual understanding, higher-order thinking skills, and the internalisation of character values when supported by teachers’ pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies. Conclusion: Integrating these three aspects yields a holistic and sustainable learning framework that supports meaningful learning processes in primary education. Contribution: This research enriches theoretical perspectives on meaningful learning design by integrating character development with comprehensive teacher competence development.</dc:description>

<dc:description xml:lang="en-US">Background: School culture plays a crucial role in strengthening students’ character, particularly through the implementation of the 3S culture (Smile, Greetings, and Address), which emphasises politeness and positive communication. Objective: This study aims to analyse the implementation of the 3S culture, the roles of school members, supporting and inhibiting factors, and its impact on students’ character and the overall school climate. Method: The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using observation and interviews to obtain in-depth and contextual data. Results: The findings reveal that the 3S culture has been implemented through daily habituation and consistent teacher role-modelling, which have contributed to improvements in students’ discipline, respect, and harmonious interpersonal relationships within the school environment. However, the implementation has not been fully optimal due to inconsistent student participation and insufficient continuous supervision. Conclusion: The 3S culture demonstrates a positive influence in shaping students’ character and fostering a conducive learning environment. Contribution: This study provides a practical contribution by offering a habituation-based model of school culture that can serve as a reference for sustaining character development in educational settings.</dc:description>
