Does the Process of Counseling Minors Require Parental Consent: Requirement or Necessity?
Keywords:
Counseling Minors, Parental Consent, Requirement, NecessityAbstract
Objective: This study was conducted to review the urgency of parental consent in counseling for minors. This research was conducted in 2024. Method: This study uses a systematic literature review (SLR) method to synthesize and present more in-depth data from 21 previous studies selected as journal articles and books in Google Scholar, PubMed, Harzing, and Mendeley. Results: Parental consent before counseling for minors is a condition, not a requirement, which means it is only to determine whether counseling can be carried out and does not significantly impact the implementation of counseling. Conclusion: Counselors must still prioritize children's rights and beliefs in counseling. The limits of decisions minors can make without parental intervention must be studied more deeply in future research. Contribution: The research is a practical guide for counselors in dealing with the dilemma of obtaining parental consent before initiating counseling for adolescents.
